Secure, online mental health counseling across North Carolina

Hi, I’m Adam

I’m a licensed therapist and professor passionate about helping people live more meaningful, authentic lives. Whether you're navigating a life transition, struggling with anxiety or OCD, or exploring questions around identity, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and respect.

My approach to therapy is grounded in a humanistic, nonjudgmental relationship. I strive to respect, affirm, and honor people from all backgrounds and identities. I also enjoy getting to know my clients as whole people, not just their struggles. Yes, I want to hear about your passions, hobbies, good and bad vacations, and weird interactions with your barista. And we’ll also get down to business as I aim to balance a pace of challenge and support through a holistic, strength-based lens.

On a more clinical note, I use exposure and response prevention for folks who struggle with OCD. For other mental health concerns, I draw from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help clients take meaningful action in their lives. ACT supports people in developing a different relationship with their mental health concerns, one rooted in compassion and acceptance, so that they can live in alignment with their values.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, discovering new music, perfecting my morning coffee ritual, exploring new restaurants and breweries, listening to This American Life, keeping up with best picture nominees, and working on becoming a better guitar player.

Liberatory Practice

Liberatory practice assumes there’s no one right way to be. In our work together, I am committed to unpacking how society has boxed us in regarding how we “should be.” This approach aims to see you more clearly and to help remove obstacles that prevent you from developing your unique way of being beyond racial, gender, sexual, class, and religious hierarchies. I won’t always get it right, but I am dedicated to this ethic and will strive to create a space that challenges these hierarchies.
